What if the argument was “I walk. Therefore, I am” instead of “I think. Therefore, I am.”?

The argument “I walk. Therefore, I am” would not have done just as well.  It would lead you to the conclusion that you are a walking thing and not a thinking thing.  Also walking is external while thinking is internal.  Furthermore if you exist every time you walk then that must mean you don’t exist when you are not walking – which is impossible as you cannot exist and not exist, back and forth throughout the day.  You think inside your mind – it requires no use of muscles.  Walking is different then thinking – walking is a way you transport yourself from one location to another.

Is my existence as a thinking thing not dependant upon the existence of anything else, for example, my body or soul?

I cannot say for certain that I have a body or soul.  It is possible that my entire body is nothing more then part of a complex dream and in this dream these odd things called bodies – which store guts and organs for odder things called creatures or animals… exist. Whether I have a soul or spirit is unsure to no for sure too. Do I have a magical part of my being stored deep in the core of this “body”?  How am I to tell this spiritual thing is unique, or affected by my choices, or environment.  Even though I do not know for sure if my body and soul exist – I know for sure I am a thinking thing as I can think.   Since my thinking exists I therefore must exist. I am not a person, though I have personality, I perceive to have a physical body, but I have no certain way of knowing it actually exists.  I exist as a thinking thing because I think.

Are their any problems with my senses?

Your senses you use to perceive and judge your environment and whats in it.  The problem is that when you look at the piece of wax you have no way of knowing that this is what wax really feels like – this is the sensation of wax.  The sensation you feel is a sensation created by what you may expect, think, or believe wax feels like.  How do you know you’re judging you’re senses correctly? Can you’re senses be incorrect or change?  When you find something that taste or feels like something else – has a similar or identical sensation – how do you tell if this sensation is really similar to what you’re comparing it to? A lot of things may taste like chicken maybe just because this dream, you’re senses, or maybe you’re judgements, can’t perceive another taste.

If I am a thinking thing, are other people thinking things?

I know that wax is not a thinking thing.  However I also don’t know for sure if other people are thinking things.  It seems reasonable that since I am human with this big brain I can think, they must be thinking things too as they have access to the same brain and body I do – or at least I perceive.   I cannot read other minds though which also leads me to believe my mind cannot be read by anyone but myself.  Since I am unsure other people are thinking beings it is possible that I am a lone thinking being and they are hallucinations or complex creatures which also live in the same world I perceive around me.   The problem with other people is the uncertainty of whether they are thinking beings like me or just the same creature I perceive I am with no thoughts.
