Do we all have meat puppets? Call it the pineal gland, the voice in your head when you think, or whatever you wish, but either way their is something in our head that is the “real me” for each of us. This “real me” – the “I” when any thought like “I should do X about Y.”, “I am an X”, “I was doing X when Y happened.”, and etc… that “I” is what controls your meat puppet – your body. If I am certain that the “I” exists since I am a thinking thing and my thinking proves “I” exist… do I have any way of knowing for certain if my body exists? I can feel pain and sensations with my body, but these feelings are nothing more then judgements my mind has made about what my senses sense. It brings me to the whole “Is life just a dream? Is my mind – the “I” the only thing I know that’s really real?” Even though I am not certain if my body exists and this is all a dream. If this is a dream, these bodies exist in it and I have one of my own and am in complete control of it. If bodies exist and I am in control of my own I must have some form of controller for my body. The brain seems to be the most obvious controller as it is what sends signals throughout the body to move, speak, eat, etc. I also know that “I” exist as a thinking thing inside my head or at least I perceive to be inside my head – my brain. Now with these bodies with a brain inside them acting as a controller it would make sense that the “I” is inside this brain and is the source of the controlling. Therefore – whether this body exists only in the dream world I perceive around or it is real and all around me is real… I am in control of this body - this meat puppet. There is a controller pulling the strings – which in this case are electric signals in the body the brain sends. The controller is me – my mind – my brain – my thoughts – the I that exists as a thinking thing that I perceive to be inside me. I have a meat puppet. I am a thinking thing that exists in what I perceive is my head or mind which controls a mass of flesh, bone, and muscle that which I take care of, see, and interact with the world through. Whether this is a dream or reality I still have control over my meat puppet. Now the question comes… if the mind and body are one then even though I can’t say for certain I have a body, but can assume I do, and furthermore can assume it is a meat puppet… if my mind and body or meat puppet are one… then is my meat puppet really a puppet being controlled or does it have a mind of its one, does it run on instinct, does it house a soul or spirit which holds some form of magic powers? Do my mind and body cooperate or is one dominant over the other? Can you push your body past its normal limits – “mind over matter”? Can your body push your mind past its normal limits – “matter over mind”? If the mind and meat puppet are one then the meat puppet is not a puppet at all. It would then mean that the hand you hold infront of your face would have to be just as much as the I that exists as a thinking thing inside your mind. If they’re one then your thoughts may not be your brain, but every other organ and cell in your body. The brain could just be the focus of your thoughts when you think with your being. I am only certain that I am a thinking thing and I exist inside my mind though. I have no way of knowing if my body or meat puppet really exists and if it is one or separate with my mind. You can choose to believe they are one, they are separate, one dominants the other as a controller, they cooperate, or anything you can really think of. Knowing that the “I” exist for certain and not the body makes deciding tricky though. Also, if the “I” for certain exists, but not the body, assuming again whether this is a dream with bodies and death or reality with bodies and death – the concepts of bodies and death still exist in both. So when you die does your meat puppet or body just die and the “I” move onto something else or does the thinking thing that is inside the body or meat puppet disappears as well? If they are one, then when we die do they die as one? What makes the real me inside the real me? What makes the me outside not the real me? How can I be certain?
